Volkswagen

Volkswagen or VW is a German car manufacturer created in the 1930s by Ferdinand Porsche under the initiative of the German Labour Front. The origins of the brand can be found in Nazi Germany with the project to build the popular car that became the Beetle, officially designated "Type 1" and called Käfer in Germany, which was to be accessible to all, the people's car. The project was inspired by Hans Ledwinka's avant-garde Tatra models.

One of the best-known and best-selling models is the Beetle, produced from 1938 to 2003. It was the best-selling model in the history of the automobile with over 21 million units produced. Other VW flagships include the Golf, a compact car produced since 1974, which has become one of the brand's best-selling models, and the Polo, a compact car produced since 1975. The Passat, a family car produced since 1973, is also very popular. Since the 2000s, Volkswagen has expanded its product range to include SUVs, trucks and electric and hybrid vehicles. It has also launched luxury brands such as Audi and Bentley. In 2018, Volkswagen was the world's largest vehicle manufacturer ahead of Toyota with 10.8 million units sold.
