Hummer was an American manufacturer of sport utility vehicles derived from the Humvee military all-terrain vehicle. It belonged to the General Motors (GM) automotive group. The brand was born in 1992 with the release of the Hummer H1, a civilian version of the Humvee known for its large size, ability to drive in difficult terrain and versatility.
The Humvee was primarily intended for the military market and was used by many military and security forces. It replaced the older Jeeps. Due to GM's financial difficulties in 2008, the brand was put up for sale in 2009 and closed in 2010. In 2020, GMC relaunched the brand with an electric Hummer.
